TV Land has ordered a pilot for a spinoff of a hit comedy that would star one of the Original Kings of Comedy, reports Deadline.com.

Cedric the Entertainer’s character was introduced on an episode of “Hot in Cleveland” that aired in August, the story notes. The character, a minister, will be followed in the potential spinoff as he moves to St. Louis, Cedric’s hometown, and deals with his wild past as well as his family’s and his congregation’s expectations of him, the story notes.

Production will begin in December, the piece adds.

Cedric was one of four comedians spotlighted in Spike Lee’s 2000 feature film “The Original Kings of Comedy.” He was a regular on WB’s “The Steve Harvey Show” and is also known for his role as Eddie in the “Barbershop” movies.
