Fox has announced the renewal of a show it is touting as the “No. 1 reality show on broadcast television this fall,” E! Online reports.

The show is Simon Cowell’s singing competition “The X Factor.” While the show’s ratings have dipped since its premiere, it continues to pull in solid numbers, and last week’s first live performance show saw a surge in viewers, the story notes.

The report adds: “According to Fox, ‘X Factor’ is outperforming returning hits like ‘Survivor’ (by 27%), ‘Dancing With the Stars’ (by +38%), ‘Amazing Race’ (by +47%) and ‘The Biggest Loser’ (by +104%). It’s also one of the top three new fall shows with more than 13 million viewers.”

The network announced that “X Factor” will return for a second season, the story reports.

  1. Now the real question is if when will X Factor air next season?
Will it be Fall 2012, or Spring 2013?
(Also known as: Is this the year that Fox cancels American Idol?)
