Golden Globes Organizers Divided on Whether to Bring Back Ricky Gervais — but One Side Appears to Have the Edge

With the Golden Globe Awards ceremony less than two months away, a decision must be made by week’s end on whether to tap Ricky Gervais as host — and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association is deeply divided over the choice, reports Deadline.com.

The group’s members appear evenly split on whether to bring back Gervais to host for a third time, the story says. One argument in favor of bringing him back is that there’s been more chatter and interest in the Globes in the years he has hosted, the story says.

However, there’s the concern about the perception the group is inviting Gervais to humiliate all the show’s guests, the piece adds. Currently, the pro-Gervais side appears to have a slight edge, the story says.

TVWeek reported last week that Gervais was meeting with HFPA and NBC about a possible return appearance as host of the Globes and said he would be "tempted" if he did receive an offer.
