CNN Washington bureau chief Sam Feist announced today that Eric Sherling has been named director of Washington programming. Sherling had previously been executive broadcast producer of ABC News’ "Good Morning America."

Sherling was previously with CNN starting in 2000, and was involved with the launch of "The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer" in August 2005. He later became executive producer of that program, before moving to ABC in 2009.

In a release, Feist said of the appointment, “We are delighted to welcome Eric back to Washington and to the CNN family. His experience speaks for itself. He’ll be an invaluable asset as the network heads into the 2012 election cycle.”
