NBC Deals Another Blow to Low-Rated Series — but Still Hasn’t Officially Pulled the Plug

The death watch continues for a low-rated NBC drama, with the network doing everything but officially cancel it. The latest piece of bad news for “Prime Suspect” is the announcement that production on the crime drama will wrap at the end of November, reports the Los Angeles Times’ Show Tracker blog.

The rookie show will be replaced on NBC’s midseason schedule by "The Firm" starting Jan. 12, the story says. The stop in production likely means the show won’t be returning after its 13 episodes air, the piece points out.

The latest episode of “Prime Suspect,” which aired Nov. 10, averaged a 1.3 rating in the key 18-49 demo, a distant third in its 10 p.m. time slot behind ABC’s “Private Practice” (2.8 average) and CBS’s “The Mentalist” (1.9). In total viewers, “Suspect” averaged only 4.86 million while “Mentalist” drew 10.08 million and “Practice” attracted 7.51 million.

  1. Can’t say I’m surprised. Don’t expect THE FIRM to do much better.

  2. NBC is just a mess give up in the bottom for at least 5 years must be nice to have so much money to throw down the drain!!

  3. Great Show that like other cop dramas just needs time to build. But of course that rarely happens these days. NYPD would be gone already if it premired in 2011.

  4. Worse. The Mentalist was a REPEAT and it still crushed PS in demo.
