Oprah’s Best Friend Bails Out on OWN

With her decision to join CBS’s new morning news show, as we reported Tuesday, Gayle King is leaving the cable network started by her best friend, Oprah Winfrey, reports TheWrap.com.

The breakup appears to be amicable. "We are so happy for Gayle’s opportunity of a lifetime," said Sheri Salata and Erik Logan, presidents of OWN, in a statement.

The last episode of "The Gayle King Show" will air Thursday, the story says.

King’s move marks the latest departure for OWN, the story points out. Peter Liguori, who was interim CEO of OWN for two months before Winfrey took on the job, also made a recent exit, as we reported last week.

  1. Gaylemis an awful interviewer. Her own show sucked. She is just a name, not a talent. If she wasn’t oprahs bff, she would be a no one.

  2. I disagree- I liked the Gayle King Show and Ill miss it- Of course she’s no the best interviewer- Her show is more like current events with a flare for socializing with her guests and she’s opinionated but her opinions are pretty good and she is swayed by the opinions of others but also says “i don’t agree with that” enough to show she has her own mind. I think Oprah has already found her way with values and principles but still interviews mostly from just asking questions, not by stating opinions of the answers to the questions she asks. I hope the news station Gayle goes to can be seen from my location.

  3. More people can see u in the middle of times square than if u were on gayle king show. Not many more will watch her on CBS.
