Nov 23, 2011  •  Post A Comment

A study by Internet management and security company SplashData has compiled the worst passwords of the year, based on data from hackers, Time reports.

No. 1 on the list: “password.” (Its variation, “passw0rd,” created by changing the letter o to a zero, is also on the Top 25 list.)

Also high on the list: “123456,” in the No. 2 spot, and “12345678,” at No. 3. Then there’s “qwerty” and “abc123.”

These are commonly used passwords and in many cases appear on the list year after year, meaning someone isn’t getting the memo.

Inexplicably high on the list is "monkey."
