Sexy Actress Behind Ottoman Empire Project in Development at Starz

An actress known for her sexy roles in movies such as “Showgirls” and “Bound” is behind what sounds like an unlikely project that’s reportedly in development at Starz.

The project is about the Ottoman Empire, and it’s based on an idea by campy favorite Gina Gershon, according to The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed blog.

The project is a potential six-hour series looking at the reign of Sultan Suleyman the Magnificent, the longest-ruling sultan of the Ottoman Empire, the story says. The show would focus on Roxelena, a slave girl who married Suleyman and began what was called the "Reign of Women," the piece adds.

Gershon’s unconventional resume includes a recurring role as a Hasidic dry cleaner on HBO’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm” and appearances on “Rescue Me” and “Ugly Betty,” along with film roles in “Face/Off,” “Palmetto” and “Slackers.”

"The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe" writer Ann Peacock is close to a deal to write the Starz project, the story says.
