Showtime has announced the renewal of a comedy series that has become a fixture for the network, according to The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed blog.

"Weeds" will return for an eighth season, as the pay cable net ordered 13 new episodes of its highest-rated comedy series, the story reports.

Production on the new episodes will start next year, the story says. The show’s most recent season averaged about 720,000 viewers.

"Weeds," which has received many Emmy and Golden Globe nominations, stars Mary-Louise Parker as a drug-dealing mom. Parker’s performance on the show won her a Golden Globe in 2006 for best performance by an actress in a comedy series.

  1. I’ve been watching this show since the first season so that’s great to hear it’s coming back for an eighth season. I just hope it doesn’t go more downhill though because last season was pretty weird and boring. I hope they pick up their game and make it how it used to be because it really is one of my favorite shows. Any word on The Big C? The season finale was no way to leave a fan hanging! 🙂
