What’s in a Name? Donald Trump Puts a Price on His (And Oh, by the Way, He’s Making Noise Again About Running for President)

Donald Trump, who is said to again be considering a run for president — and not necessarily as a Republican — has a figure in mind that he says his name is worth.

The figure: $3 billion, according to Reuters.

In his new book, "Time to Get Tough," the host of NBC’s "The Apprentice" claims that his name alone is worth $3 billion, and his net worth is about $7 billion. Trump bristled at the $2.9 billion figure that Forbes magazine set for his net worth in its September 2011 issue. The $4 billion-plus difference between Trump’s estimate and Forbes’ is due to what Trump calls "brand value," according to the book.

In the book, Trump writes that his name value of $3 billion "has been established by Predictiv, the highly respected brand valuation company." Forbes responded to that claim by saying that they put the Trump name value at $200 million.

When Trump heard Forbes’ estimate, he retorted, "You’re ridiculous," Reuters reports.

The Washington Post, meanwhile, reports that Trump is again flirting with a run for the White House, noting that the timing is about right to help pump up publicity for the book.

The Post reports that the book, due out Dec. 5, “is a political one, where Trump expounds on his view of the world. As in, Obama bad, Trump very good. And also very rich. As in $270 million cash-on-hand, according to the book, that the real-estate mogul could spend on a White House bid at any given moment.”

Michael Cohen, a Trump aide, is quoted in The Post story saying: “Anything is possible — we are certainly at the present moment keeping all options open. If he is not happy with who the GOP nominates, he might mount an independent run.”
