"Doctor Who" star Matt Smith, who plays the 11th time-traveling time lord on the British sci-fi series, said he plans to continue in the role, TVGuide.com reports.

Smith’s comments followed the news that the two actors who play his character’s companions — Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill — are leaving the show, the story notes. He talked about the situation on "The Graham Norton Show," a British talk show.

"I am very happy to stay. I love it and love making the show," Smith said, according to the story. He said he will miss Gillan, who plays his traveling companion Amy Pond. He added that he knew of her planned departure for a while.

"There comes a time when a story reaches its conclusion, and the essence of the show is that it constantly reinvents itself," he said, according to the story.

Smith hinted earlier this year that he might be leaving the show, but the story reports that he is signed for at least 14 additional episodes.
