Former "Law & Order: SVU" star Chris Meloni, who ended his run as NYPD Det. Elliot Stabler on that show last spring, has been tapped for a regular role in the fifth season of ‘True Blood," TVLine.com reports.
Meloni will play an "ancient, powerful vampire who holds the fate of Bill and Eric in his hands," according to executive producer Alan Ball, the story says.
The move was in negotiations for weeks, but Meloni’s return to HBO — where he previously appeared in “Oz” — just became official.
This should be really interesting. Meloni’s been playing pretty much the same style of character for years between OZ & SVU. This should be at least a little different. I’ll miss him on SVU but look forward to seeing him play something different.
