One of Mexico’s Biggest Film Stars Dies

One of Mexico’s biggest film stars, who appeared Hollywood hits including "The Legend of Zorro," has died at the age of 71, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Pedro Armendariz Jr. had been suffering from cancer before he died in a New York hospital where he was being treated for the disease. His friend Diego Luna tweeted about Armendariz on Monday, saying, "Pedro is one of those who made you smile just seeing them."

Armendariz Jr. was the son of the actor Pedro Armendariz, who worked with stars including John Wayne and Sean Connery.

The younger Armendariz appeared in the features "Once Upon a Time in Mexico" and "The Mexican," and is in the upcoming Will Ferrell film "Casa de mi Padre."

Pedro Armendariz Jr.’s death was announced via Twitter by Televisa news anchor Joaquin Lopez Doriga.
