Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Unveils 2012 Inductees

Dec 7, 2011  •  Post A Comment

A seminal 1980s hard rock band, a classic British rock group and a funk-rock outfit that had a big influence on the music of the 1990s are among the headliners in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s class of 2012, CBS News reports.

Guns N’ Roses, the Faces and the Red Hot Chili Peppers will be inducted April 14 in Cleveland. Also among the year’s inductees: the Beastie Boys, Donovan, Freddie King and Laura Nyro.

The story reports: “Guns N’ Roses blazed on the rock scene in 1987 with its official debut, ‘Appetite for Destruction.’ Fronted by Axl Rose, with Slash and Izzy Stradlin on guitars, Duff McKagan on bass and Steven Adler on drums, the group dominated music with its aggressive rock grooves, a counterpoint to the pop music of Madonna and Michael Jackson.”

The funk-infused Red Hot Chili Peppers discography goes back to 1984 and includes influential albums such as “The Uplift Mofo Party Plan” (1987), “Blood Sugar Sex Magik” (1991) and “Californication” (1999). The band is still going strong, releasing “I’m With You” this year.

British rockers the Faces, originally known as the Small Faces, featured Rod Stewart and the Rolling Stones’ Ronnie Wood, both of whom will be inducted for the second time. Stewart went in as a solo artist in 1994 and Wood was inducted along with the Stones in 1989.

  1. What about Donovan! He was one of the leaders of the British Invasion and Sunshine Superman topped the Billboard hot 100 for 1966. Catch the Wind and Colours were also major hits. And he was the first artist signed by the great Clive Davis when he was starting his career at CBS. He was famous for his ‘finger-picking guitar style which he taught to Lennon and McCartney. Plus his daughter is Ione Skye.
