TV Host Who Turned Down MSNBC Says He Didn’t Like the Lecture He Got From Network Chief

A TV host who worked for a while on MSNBC before jumping to another cable network said he turned down an MSNBC offer in part because of a lecture he got from the network boss.

Current TV host Cenk Uygur told the Los Angeles Times that he turned down an offer "with a lot of money" from MSNBC after network chief Phil Griffin lectured him about his tone.

Uygur left MSNBC last summer after about six months with the network. He says Griffin gave him a "speech" about how MSNBC was part of the establishment and "I had to act like it," the story notes.

According to Uygur, Griffin told him, "The guys who are outsiders are cool. I’d love to be the outsider, but we’re not. We’re insiders. We’re part of the establishment, and you have to recognize that. And Washington is not happy with your tone."

Despite getting an offer to have a weekend show on MSNBC, Uygur said he "turned it down because I didn’t want to do that kind of show," according to the piece.

His roundtable talk show, "The Young Turks," began airing Dec. 5 on Current TV, where it leads in to “Countdown with Keith Olbermann,” another show featuring a former MSNBC host.

  1. Now all I need is to get CABLEVISION to carry CurrentTV.
What is this, Cablevision, why no current TV on my lineup?

  2. No thanks please cablevisipn don’t add current. I don’t want my bill to go for that crap. Current is now a place for MSNBC rejects seen by 4 viewers.
