Why Networks Aren’t Biting on ‘No-Holds-Barred’ Interview With Acquitted Tot Killer Casey Anthony

Dec 15, 2011  •  Post A Comment

Casey Anthony is shopping her first interview as a television special, but so far several cable networks have passed on the offer, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Anthony is working with Scott Sternberg Productions and asking between $500,000 and $750,000 for the interview, described as a "no-holds-barred interview," the story says.

So far, Discovery’s TLC and ID have passed, as has A&E Networks, the piece adds. Part of the problem is that Anthony, who was acquitted in July of murdering her 2-year-old daughter, became a target of public outrage after the trial, the story notes.

The story reports: “Anthony’s pariah status has already spurred news divisions to publicly disavow the common and age-old practice of licensing personal photos and home video from interview subjects as a fig leaf to paying outright for interviews. And ABC News, CBS News and NBC News all have stated adamantly that they would not pay for an Anthony interview specifically.”

Additionally, the story notes that even though an Anthony interview would generate interest, it could be difficult to get advertisers to sponsor a program built around Anthony.

  1. Incredibly sloppy journalism here.
Casey Anthony is not an acquitted “tot killer.” She was acquitted of ACCUSATIONS of killing her daughter.
I’m not saying that Anthony didn’t play some ulterior role in the death of her daughter, but your headline is effectively saying that she killed her daughter and got away with it. In light of the details of the case, it’s understandable that you might think that, but you should not be putting that thought in writing (and particularly not in a headline).
I’m sure your corporate legal counsel would agree and recommend that a correction is due.

  2. I agree on headline correction. Also agree she killed her daughter and joyfully got away with it.

  3. I personally believe the headline is FITTING. And there should be NO Changes, or apologies for the stated headline. Casey Anthony is a child killer, who got away with murder. The jury was tainted, AND or paid off IMO. We the people have the right to our opinions, and free speech. GREAT ARTICLE. Thank Goodness nobody wants a wasted interview with the murderer of Caylee. Casey is a known liar, and would lie just to make a dollar. So, good job to those who have no interest in this criminal.

  7. one more correction to the initial comment — “VideoSavant” should be changed to the more accurate and familiar “IDIOT SAVANT”

  8. I think HLN should do the interview and let Nancy Grace grill her. She might be able to get the truth out of her….or wishful thinking.

  9. I have an idea, that may bring HIGH ratings for the murderer. Let her be interviewed, and sign a contract for the money to go toward abused children. But, do you think that greedy Casey would do something that good for our Country? NAH. Casey is all about herself, no way would she ever help a deprived child, what am I thinking????
