A past winner of Fox’s "American Idol" has been tapped for a role on the rival singing competition "The Voice," reports the New York Post.

Kelly Clarkson, 29, will mentor singers coached by country star Blake Shelton during an episode of the NBC show set to air in the spring, probably in late March or April, the story says.

Fox’s "Idol" and NBC’s "The Voice" are scheduled to compete directly against each other for the first time this winter, the piece points out.

Clarkson became the winner of the first season of “American Idol” in 2002 and went on to a successful recording career.
