Disney has unveiled plans for a March 23 launch of a new channel, which will replace a familiar channel that is being phased out, Deadline.com reports.

Disney Junior will debut at midnight on March 23, replacing SoapNet, the story reports. Disney Junior, which started as a programming block on Disney Channel, will remain as a block after the network launches, the story says. Disney Junior targets kids 2 to 7 years old.

Additionally, the piece reports that Disney XD will debut a Marvel programming block, Marvel Universe, on April 1. The shows will include "Ultimate Spider-Man" and the return of "The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes," according to the story.

  1. Hmmm, I don’t watch SoapNet, but I do think more than a few people might be a lil upset with this switch.

  2. Thanks for writing

  3. SoapNet’s biggest problem is that it’s owned by Disney. Compared to money it rakes in off of kid’s programming, truly niche networks like SoapNet don’t make enough to bother with. If it were owned by a smaller company, SoapNet would probably be looked at as a minor success.
