After a longtime booker for "Late Show with David Letterman" revealed that he booked more men than women because female comics aren’t as "authentic" as male comedians, the show has replaced him, reports The New York Times’ ArtsBeat blog.
Booker and stand-up comedian Eddie Brill made the comments about male versus female comedians in a separate interview with The New York Times. In that story, Brill explained why the show only booked one woman in 2011: “There are a lot less female comics who are authentic. I see a lot of female comics who to please an audience will act like men," according to the story.
CBS declined to comment. The show is reverting to a system where a staffer will scout comedians at clubs and invite them to perform in showcases for senior producers, the piece notes. The producers will then decide which comedians to book.
Brill is expected to stay at "Late Show," working as a warmup comedian for the show’s audience, the article adds.
Just can’t speak the truth or have an honest opinion anymore. There are fewer female comics and most of them try to “act like a comic” rather than be themselves. As a result, they are not as funny.
