Long-Running Kids Show Targeted by Petition About Breastfeeding

A petition focused on breastfeeding and aimed at a long-running children’s show has been gathering momentum online, with about 3,000 people signing so far and a goal of 5,000, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The petition asks the educational show "Sesame Street" to bring back depictions of breastfeeding, the story reports. According to the petition, the program "tastefully" showed nursing in the 1970s and 1980s, "but now they have replaced their nursing videos with bottles," the story says.

The petitioners aren’t asking for bottle-feeding to be removed, but want the program to show both methods of feeding babies, the story adds. The group behind the petition reportedly says it is sponsored by “breastfeeding mothers and their supporters everywhere.”

  1. Poor PBS. There’s no end to the people who will damn if they do and if they don’t. I can just imagine what firestorm would rain down if Sesame Street showed women nursing babies in this era.
