A lovefest between Oprah Winfrey and her fans in India turned ugly this week as a brawl erupted during her visit to the subcontinent, E! Online reports.
Winfrey is reprotedly in India taping a segment on Bollywood for “Oprah’s Next Chapter.”
The story reports: “Winfrey stopped at a center for child widows on Thursday in a suburb approximately 90 miles south of Delhi when her bodyguards were seen roughing up a TV journalist and cameraman who had tried to follow her inside.”
The story quotes Prem Gautam, superintendent of police for the Mathura Region, saying: "Oprah Winfrey was in one of the ashrams where the widows stay. Journalists wanted to go in, but were refused entry. They had an argument, but it was all sorted."
The story reports that some camera equipment apparently was damaged, and “the angry reporter ended up throwing stones at the men.”
The New York Daily News adds that Indian authorities briefly detained three of Winfrey’s bodyguards in the wake of the confrontation. The men were released after reportedly providing a written apology to the journalists.
