Starz has greenlighted a new 10-episode drama series based on a well-known historical figure, Deadline.com reports. The series is built around the exploits of 13th century explorer Marco Polo.
The Weinstein Company and Electus will produce "Marco Polo," which will emphasize adventure, intrigue, politics and even martial arts. The series is created by “Hidalgo’s” John Fusco.
According to Starz CEO Chris Albrecht, “Marco Polo has captivated imaginations for centuries, and John’s script brings this fantastical story to life."
The project marks a return to Albrecht’s affinity for costume dramas like the first production he ever approved for Starz, "Camelot." Recent Starz shows, such as "Boss" and "Magic City," have focused on more modern themes.
