Tensions Between Olbermann and Current TV in Hands of Lawyers for Each Side

Keith Olbermann’s lead attorney is negotiating with Current TV over his role at the network, following a falling out over his participation in the Republican primaries, according to The Hollywood Reporter’s Hollywood, Esq. blog.

The attorney, Patricia Glaser, represented Olbermann when he left MSNBC and joined Current, the story notes. Said Glaser: “Keith’s lawyers and Current’s lawyers are communicating.”

It’s unclear what the negotiations mean for Olbermann, although tensions have arisen between himself and Current management, the piece notes. As previously reported, Current TV didn’t schedule Olbermann to cover the Iowa caucus and the New Hampshire primary this month, instead tapping two other anchors and Current TV Chairman Al Gore, the former U.S. vice president.

Technical difficulties reportedly surfaced involving Olbermann’s show, “Countdown,” which is based in New York. But Olbermann expressed displeasure about the situation, telling the publication in a statement: “I was not given a legitimate opportunity to host under acceptable conditions. They know it and we know it. Telling half the story is wrong.”

“Countdown,” Current’s top-rated show, was pre-empted earlier this week for coverage of the Iowa caucuses. Issues between Olbermann and the network reportedly include control over the hiring of other hosts for the network, along with coverage of special events such as the primary elections.
