A television host has taken steps that would position him for a possible run for president, CBSNews.com reports. Announcing on Thursday’s "Colbert Report" that he is contemplating joining the South Carolina primary was the show’s host, Stephen Colbert, the story reports.

Colbert had fellow Comedy Central host Jon Stewart visit the show to sign over his super political action committee to Stewart, a move that opens the way for Colbert to enter the Republican presidential primary in South Carolina — Colbert’s home state — according to the story.

Politicians on the campaign trail aren’t allowed to also run super PACs, the story notes.

After signing over the super PAC, Colbert announced he is forming "an exploratory committee to lay the groundwork for my possible candidacy for the president of the United States of South Carolina," according to the story.

The move comes after a Public Policy Polling survey released Tuesday found that Colbert is polling ahead of former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman in South Carolina, the story says.

  1. ever heard of pat paulson. He ran a campaign that spoofed the election process, and made more sense than Ron Paul.

  2. Most people make more sense than Ron Paul. But I will say at least he has been consistent. You can’t say that about any president or candidate since 1789.

  3. I still vote for Pat Paulsen. Even dead, he’s better than most candidates.
