A video clip posted on the Internet that appears to show U.S. Marines urinating on the bodies of dead Taliban fighters has created a public uproar and a problem for the U.S. government, USA Today reports.

Defense Secretary Leon Panetta, who called the video deplorable, called Afghanistan’s president, Hamid Karzai, to promise a full investigation into the incident, the story says. He also issued a public statement calling the behavior “entirely inappropriate for members of the United States military” and indicated the people responsible would be held accountable.

Karzai has called the incident “completely inhumane,” and has demanded that the U.S. military punish the perpetrators, the report says.

The story reports: “At least two of the four men have been identified as Marines based at Camp Lejeune, N.C., the Associated Press reported, citing a Marine official who spoke on condition of anonymity because there is an active criminal investigation of the incident.”
