Another trouble sign has surfaced for soap operas. In a move that reflects the reality that only four daytime dramas remain on the air in the U.S., the newspaper-style magazine Soap Opera Weekly has been shuttered, reports WeLoveSoaps.com.

A year ago Soap Opera Weekly and Soap Opera Digest were taken over by publisher American Media Inc., with significant staff cuts at both publications. American Media also owns National Enquirer, Star, The Globe and other publications.

Soap Opera Weekly was founded by Mimi Torchin as a spinoff of Soap Opera Digest.

  1. TV Guide Magazine is owned by OpenGate Capital, not American Media.
