Exec Producer Talks About Fate of Drama Series After Low-Rated Finale

The executive producer of a drama series that just wrapped up its first season on a low note admitted to TVGuide.com that he’s less than confident about the show’s possible return for season two.

"Alcatraz" executive producer Daniel Pyne indicated the Fox program’s low ratings for its two-hour finale, which we reported Tuesday, are troubling.

Asked about the chances for a renewal, Pyne responded, "I don’t know. I wish the numbers had been better last night. I mean they weren’t terrible. But we keep just slipping a little bit, which I’m not wild about," according to the story.

Asked whether the show will wrap up its mysteries if it doesn’t get renewed, Pyne noted, "We haven’t planned on anything yet, but we’ll deal with that when the time comes. In one way, we feel like the first 13 [episodes] were a marvelous short story and ended where we wanted it to end with tons of questions, but [also] a lot of answers to things that had been bugging people."

As previously reported, the two-hour season finale of “Alcatraz” went out with a thud, slipping to a series-low 1.5 average rating in adults 18-49.

  1. If you don’t give us some answers along the way, we will get frustrated and say adios…I have…I was tired of watching the show and wondering what the hell was going on.

  2. Dump Alcatraz and give Fringe one more year. You will make it up in syndication. Alcatraz will never get enough episodes for syndication even if it is renewed for another 13.
