NBC’s ‘Munsters’ Reboot Will Be ‘Way Darker Than People Expect,’ Says Star

NBC’s remake of "The Munsters" will be "way darker than people expect,” one of the stars of the new show tells New York Magazine’s Vulture blog.

Eddie Izzard, who will play Grandpa Munster, said the new project, "Mockingbird Lane," represents a bigger change than what happened to “The Addams Family" when that classic TV series was transformed into a film franchise.

"But if you know where ‘The Addams Family’ went from a sitcom to a romantic comedy [when it was remade], ours is going to [change] even moreso — but in a different place," Izzard said, according to the piece.

Izzard, who is also producing the project, noted, "No one has any idea how we’re going to do this, because this was not supposed to be my next move. But you’ll just have to wait and see. It’s a drama, it’s not a comedy, and so you’re just going to have to wait and see what we do with it."

  1. Is he kidding? He has to be kidding. The whole premise of the original is that the Munsters are oblivious to the fact that people might find them frightening. Hence the funny, hence the reason the show worked. Take that away, and you have…what?

  2. Monsters living everyday (?) lives in suburbia?
Hmm… I’ll wait to see before passing judgement.

  3. Just another example that NBC just doesn’t get what viewers really want.
This will rank up there (on the stupid chart) with MANIMAL, form the 70’s.
