A fan favorite on the PBS hit "Downton Abbey" has yet to sign a contract to return for the show’s third season, reports the U.K.’s Daily Mail.

The holdout is Dame Maggie Smith, who plays the Dowager Countess of Grantham on the show. With her tart tongue and sharp asides, Smith’s character is a favorite among viewers.

The show is currently filming its third season, the piece adds.

Michelle Dockery, who plays Lady Mary, and Hugh Bonneville, who plays Earl Grantham, have reportedly signed contracts to return, joining Elizabeth McGovern, who plays the Countess of Grantham, the story notes.

Dan Stevens, who plays Matthew Crawley, also has yet to sign a contract, the piece notes. The show’s producers are already considering a fourth and possibly fifth season of the popular period drama, the story adds.
