With its first scripted development slate, E! Entertainment is featuring a number of projects based on pop culture, including a contemporary story based on "The Wizard of Oz" and another setting the story of Anne Boleyn and Henry VIII in present-day Hollywood, reports Deadline.com.

The new projects come after NBCUniversal cable networks chief Bonnie Hammer took over responsibility for E! and made adding scripted programming a priority for the news- and reality-focused network, the story says.

Other scripted projects include "The 400," a period drama about the Vanderbilt dynasty in the 1890s, and "Upstarts," produced by Kevin Spacey and Oscar-nominated producer Michael De Luca, about the Silicon Valley digital boom in the late 1990s, the story notes.

  1. NBC’s scripted shows have done so well on NBC, it is great to see them spread them out to sister networks.
