A former CNN anchor has a late-night show in the works for cable channel BET, TVNewser reports. The show centered on T.J. Holmes will be a hybrid of news and comedy, the story says.
Holmes announced late last year that he was leaving CNN, where his duties included anchoring the news channel’s Saturday and Sunday morning shows. After five years with CNN he signed a multiplatform talent deal with BET Networks.
The new show will have more in common with "The Daily Show" than with "CNN Newsroom," the piece notes. Called "Don’t Sleep with T.J. Holmes," the show will join BET’s late-night schedule later this year, the story says.
"Speaking through a unique and smart African American filter, T.J. invites the community to wake up on the issues that affect them; don’t sleep on the stories that mainstream news outlets won’t cover," BET said in a statement. The show will also feature "hilarious ‘correspondents,’" according to the statement.
