Is Another New Network Show in Trouble? Series Plunges Six-Tenths of a Ratings Point

Wednesday night in the Nielsen overnights brought bad news to most of the broadcast networks — the lone exception being Fox, which more than doubled its closest competition, TVbytheNumbers.com reports.

The worst news was for ABC’s struggling new series “Don’t Trust the B—- in Apt. 23,” which plunged a whopping six-tenths of a ratings point from a week ago in the key 18-49 demo, managing only a 2.0 average rating, down from a 2.6. The precipitous decline can be at least partially explained by the fact that the show’s 9:30 airing was preceded by all-repeat programming on the network. But the series has already had its share of controversy, in part because of reaction to its title, as we reported earlier this month.

Leading out from “Don’t Trust the B—-,” ABC’s “Revenge” also had a bad night, dipping three-tenths to a series-low 2.0.

Season lows weren’t limited to ABC, with CBS’s “Survivor” sinking to a 2.6 average in 18-49.

NBC’s fifth-place lineup was generally flat, with “Rock Center” up slightly to a 0.9 in 18-49. Other numbers included a 1.6 for “Betty White: Off Their Rockers,” a 1.6 for “Law & Order: SVU” and a 0.8 for “Best Friends Forever.”

Even Fox’s celebration was tainted, as its two-hour “American Idol” was down two-tenths of a ratings point to a 4.6 in 18-49, still far and away the top show of the night.

Fox’s 4.6 average in the 18-49 demo for prime time blew away the competition. CBS was a distant second with a 1.9, followed by ABC at 1.8, Univision with a 1.5 and NBC with a 1.2. Total viewers was also a landslide for Fox with 16.5 million to 7.9 million for CBS, 5.6 million for ABC, 4.8 million for NBC and 3.7 million for Univision.
