NBC is rolling out plans to wrap up a new drama’s freshman season with a two-hour finale to air during May sweeps, TVLine.com reports.

The show is “Awake,” which has been a snoozer in the ratings — with recent figures giving the impression that its chances for renewal might be slim.

As we reported previously, the fantasy crime drama managed only a 1.2 average rating in the key 18-49 demo on March 22, down 25% from its previous week. “Awake” slipped even further last week, notching a series-low 1.0 in the overnights, as NBC continues to struggle mightily on Thursday nights.

Undaunted, the network appears poised to pull out all the stops for a big-bang finale.

Said series star Jason Isaacs: “When people get to the end of the season, you’ll realize you’ve been holding your breath for a few weeks. The last few [episodes] are just firing on all cylinders.”

The series’ plot has Isaacs’ character, Michael, living two lives — one when he’s asleep and the other when he’s awake.

The finale will air Thursday, May 17, from 9-11 p.m. ET.
