Universal Television has signed a two-year overall deal with "Numb3rs" producer Ken Sanzel, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Sanzel will develop, executive produce and supervise new projects for the studio, the story says.

Sanzel’s first pilot was in the late 1990s, with "Lawless" for Fox. After that he wrote and directed pilots for MTV and the CW, with his more recent work including "Numb3rs" and "NYC 22," which he is executive producing and directing for CBS.

He previously had an overall deal with CBS TV Studios, the story says.

Sanzel spent 10 years in law enforcement as part of the New York City Transit Police, the story notes.

Said Universal TV EVP Bela Bajaria: "Ken is a talented showrunner and possesses all the skills to create and sustain a hit show. Additionally, having had a prior life in the NYPD, Ken brings a unique, authentic, fresh perspective to everything he does. We’re excited to work with him."
