OK, So Chevy Chase Isn’t Happy With His Role on ‘Community’ — Everyone Knows That, but Now We Have the Expletive-Laced Tape to Prove It; Hear It for Yourself

The feud between “Community” star Chevy Chase and series showrunner Dan Harmon has been in the news for weeks, and now a new audio tape has surfaced that adds insight into what it’s all about, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The story reports: “Chase, who left a vulgarity-laden tantrum on the voicemail of series creator and showrunner Dan Harmon, which then went viral after Harmon played it publicly at a comedy show, calls Community a ‘f–king mediocre sitcom’ that suffers from a serious disconnect between what happens on set and what is seen by the audience.”

Chase also says on the tape: "The other part of the disconnect is, obviously, you don’t get my humor at all, or what it is I do that’s funny, that actually makes people laugh. … There are two choices. One is the story line — like everybody gives a s–t about the f–king story when they don’t even know who the characters are — or there’s make people laugh."

Harmon apologized last week for playing Chase’s comments publicly, as previously reported.

Here’s the audio tape, with the expletives bleeped:

  1. Wow. I think people who are lucky enough to have work need to reexamine their need for rants. I only wish I had a job to b**** about.

  2. Chase may be sincere, but he’s way off the mark–this show is not “just another sitcom,” it is regularly not only inventive and clever, but hilarious. My favorite show. Chase is old and is clueless about what is going on, with Community and the people who watch the show. He gets enough facetime on the show, so what’s his problem? In 24 minutes, there’s little time to spend on his mug doing another fall or other schtick. I love the show–and laugh at his silly antics along with Abed, Troy, Britta and the rest. It’s a great show–and will be, with or without Chase.
