With Lindsay Lohan set to begin work on Lifetime’s “Liz & Dick” in a few weeks, as we reported yesterday, at least one media personality thinks the casting of Lohan as Elizabeth Taylor is a bad idea.

Rosie O’Donnell, making her debut Monday as a panelist on the “Today’s Professionals” segment of NBC’s “Today” show, said Lohan isn’t ready for the job, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"I don’t think she’s right for the role and I don’t think she’s capable at this point to portray that character," said O’Donnell.

O’Donnell said she feels sorry for Lohan, adding: "I think she needs a lot of time away. … She’s had a lot of trouble doing every single movie, including ‘SNL.’ She was out and not in rehearsal. I think she’s not in a place to work."

Fellow panelist Donny Deutsch was more upbeat about Lohan, saying, “She’s our generation’s Elizabeth Taylor” — prompting O’Donnell to shoot back that Lohan hasn’t done anything good since she was 16.

The other panelist, Star Jones, took the middle ground, saying she hasn’t seen enough of Lohan’s work to judge her chances.

The report notes: “Lifetime’s Lohan casting is the latest move in her Hollywood comeback since she hosted ‘Saturday Night Live’ last month to mixed reviews. Best known for her tabloid antics and her breakout rule in 2004’s ‘Mean Girls,’ Lohan will also make a guest appearance on Fox’s ‘Glee’ as a judge for the show’s Nationals competition. Production on ‘Liz & Dick’ begins in early June in Los Angeles.”

O’Donnell’s “Today” job follows a failed try at a talk show for Oprah Winfrey’s OWN cable channel.

  1. Lohan is not the first celebrity to read lines off of cue cards; the script is not well-defined until the day of the show. Even the cast seems underprepared at times. As for Rosie, she has a lot of nerve declaring anyone a train wreck.

  2. I haven’t enjoyed anything Rosie has done since Sleepless in Seattle.

  3. I watch GMA over “Today” so I’m not aware of what this segment even is, but I generally like Rosie O’Donnell. And on this topic, I tend to agree: career-aside, Lindsay Lohan the person could benefit from a Hollywood break.
