Sweeping Changes May Be in Store for NBC’s ‘The Office’ as Contract Talks With Current Cast Members Stall

With negotiations stalled between the producers of NBC’s “The Office” and several cast members, the show’s executive producer Greg Daniels is considering rebooting the series as a sort of "The Office 2.0," reports Deadline.com.

The reboot would feature new characters as well as existing characters. However, it’s also unclear how much longer the show will be on television, the story notes.

The main cast may wish to make the 2012-13 season the show’s last, while NBC would like an additional year beyond that, the piece adds. Major decisions won’t be made until NBC executives review their pilots for the next season, according to the article.

The idea of rebooting the show comes as contracts for original cast members John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer and B.J. Novak and newer cast member Ed Helms expire at the end of the season. There hasn’t been much progress in negotiations during the past few weeks, the piece notes.

Daniels will be meeting with NBC executives to talk about his ideas for the fall reboot, with a number of questions needing to be addressed — such as how many episodes the stars will sign for, given other obligations, the story notes. For instance, Helms has signed on for another sequel to "The Hangover" and Krasinski has a January movie shoot, according to the report.

  1. Just kill it now. Given the ratings for NBC’s entire Thursday night lineup, it’s time to show The Office the same respect you’d show a lame horse. Put it down.

  2. I don’t know what is going on with NBC they should just give up!!
