Another NBC sitcom will undergo a key change behind the scenes. Just days after Dan Harmon lost his job with “Community,” as previously reported, “Whitney” is getting a new showrunner.
"Whitney" is tapping "Friends" veteran Wil Calhoun to take over running the sitcom, reports EW.com’s Inside TV. Executive producer Betsy Thomas is stepping down from her role and moving to serve as co-executive producer of NBC’s new comedy "Guys with Kids," the story notes.
"Whitney" hasn’t been a huge hit on NBC and its renewal was considered a surprise by some. Calhoun most recently has worked on Fox’s "I Hate My Teenage Daughter" and CBS’s "Gary Unmarried."
He received an Emmy nomination in 1999 as part of the producing team behind the long-running NBC hit “Friends.”
