Fox News Host Calls MSNBC Hosts — One in Particular — ‘Condescending, Sanctimonious Twits’ and ‘Horse’s Asses’

A Fox News host vented some ill will on the air, targeting the host of a show on rival cable news network MSNBC, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Neil Cavuto, speaking Wednesday on Fox News Channel’s “Your World with Neil Cavuto,” took offense at MSNBC host Lawrence O’Donnell’s criticism of Ann Romney’s use of horseback riding as therapy for her multiple sclerosis, a disease that Cavuto also has, the story reports.

Cavuto directed his comments at MSNBC’s hosts in general, but the attack was presumably aimed mainly at O’Donnell, who has been outspoken in his criticism of Romney.

Cavuto ripped into MSNBC for four minutes, calling its hosts "condescending, sanctimonious twits” and “horse’s asses” and accusing them of lying to their audience in their coverage of Ann Romney, the story notes.

O’Donnell recently criticized Ann Romney for saying horseback riding, especially the sport known as "dressage," is therapy for MS. O’Donnell said, "Come on, dressage does not appear in any of the more traditional courses of treatment,” according to the article.

O’Donnell and others on MSNBC have been hinting that presidential hopeful Mitt Romney is out of touch with most Americans because of his huge wealth.

Cavuto, who has had an MS diagnosis for about 15 years, appeared to lay into O’Donnell without specifically mentioning his name, the piece adds. A representative for Fox News said the comments were aimed mostly at O’Donnell, the story notes.

“I’ve had enough. Enough of condescending commentators,” Cavuto said. He cited scientific sources that support equine therapy.

“Just because you might find such therapies strange, trust me when I tell you, this disease it helps treat is a lot more strange and a lot more cruel. So go ahead and have a good, stupid laugh over Ann and her horses,” Cavuto said.

  1. Cable news would be better if there was more in-depth, objective reporting and less opinion and venom. Fox and MSNBC are you listening????

  2. No. They are not listening Lisa. The goal is to get your party in power no matter how you destroy the country doing it.

  3. It’s our own damn fault for watching them. Ignore them and they will eventually go away. Lisa – the reason MSNBC & FOX don’t do any real reporting is because nobody watches it. The audience now thinks “news” = spewing an opinion for a couple of hours. None of these people would even know how to actually report a story if the instructions were written in crayon & pinned to their shirts. Journalism? What’s that? Impartial reporting? That sounds like Commie talk!

  4. msnbc still does a great deal of good journalism. Some can separate the opinion programming from the news programming. Even reporting from a particular point of view – Maddow, to be specific – does some well researched work. It is possible.
Unfortunately, Fox News® is doing their viewers a disservice in the news area, as study after study has shown.

  5. O’Donnell’s main criticism of Romney – and the part of his criticism that Cavuto conveniently left out – was that he was deducting his drassage horse as a business expense.
