A game show legend has died at age 79 from complications due to esophageal cancer, E! Online reports.

Richard Dawson, who became a a TV legend while hosting “Family Feud” — and kissing about 20,000 women contestants along the way — died Saturday evening, June 2, 2012, at Ronald Reagan Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles, according to the story.

The article adds: “It was his role as a cockney prisoner of war named Capt. Peter Newkirk on ‘Hogan’s Heroes’ that really introduced him to American audiences. Post ‘Hogan’s Heroes’ fame, Dawson went on to host ‘Family Feud’ from 1976-1985 and then again from 1994-1995.
