MSNBC Unveils New Show to Replace Dylan Ratigan

Jun 22, 2012  •  Post A Comment

MSNBC has revealed plans for a new show that will fill the void left by the departure of host Dylan Ratigan, reports The New York Times’ Media Decoder.

The network plans to create an ensemble program featuring four political pundits, the story reports. The hourlong show, to be called "The Cycle," starts Monday.

The hosts are Toure, Krystal Ball, S.E. Cupp and Steve Kornacki, who are all contributors to MSNBC, the story notes.

The decision to focus a show on a group of relatively young people illustrates that the network is shifting away from news and into political talk, the piece adds. It also echoes Fox News, which has had success with a panel-style show called "The Five," which airs at 5 p.m. on weekdays, the piece adds.

"The Cycle" will air in Martin Bashir’s 3 p.m. slot, with Bashir shifting to 4 p.m., replacing Ratigan’s program. Ratigan said earlier this month that he’s leaving the network, as reported previously.

  1. Why would I listen to a bunch of “lightweights” with ties to political parties and employment hopes derived from such ties trade yes it is and no it isn’ts? Who will produce the show, guide the show? Will the show have the resources Ratigan had to investigate? Where is the focus? Fox lost me at its conception. MSNBC just lost me. Where will we go to discus solutions to our national problems? Where?

  2. Oh Robert, Oh Robert, where WILL you go??? At least the Fox program “The Five” has a diversity of opinion on the panel. Looking at the names of the MSNBC panel, where is even the slightest diversity of thought???

  3. Isn’t only one of “The Five” a liberal?
    Joe Scarborough? He’s a moderate, but still…
