NBC isn’t expecting the Summer Olympics to be profitable, reports B&C, citing NBC Sports Group Chairman Mark Lazarus.

Lazarus made the comments during a press conference about the network’s Olympics coverage.

While NBC executives "don’t know the results yet … we don’t necessarily expect that this [the 2012 London Olympics] will be profitable," he said.

Nevertheless, sales are "very strong" and the financial prospects have "improved" since the business plan was first put together, he added.

NBC is "confident" its agreement for the next four Olympic games, through 2020, will be "a profitable deal when the final scores come in," Lazarus said.

The deal has been valued at about $4.4 billion.
