An Emmy-winning actress is joining CBS’s crime drama “Hawaii Five-0” for the upcoming season, Deadline.com reports. Christine Lahti will tackle the integral role of Doris McGarrett, the mother of Steve (Alex O’Loughlin).

The character has been talked about but never seen before on the show.

Speaking of the casting, "Hawaii Five-0" executive producer Peter Lenkov said, “The mysterious character of Doris McGarrett is a pivotal one to the mythology of our show. We are thrilled to have a seasoned and beloved actress such as Christine to portray her."

Lahti is well-known to television audiences for her five years on "Chicago Hope," which won her an Emmy for lead actress in a drama series in 1998 and produced four of her total of six Emmy nominations. Her other nominations were a 1987 nod for the ABC miniseries “Amerika” and one for CBS’s “No Place Like Home” in 1990.

Lahti has also won two Golden Globes and was nominated for an Oscar in 1985 for her supporting role in “Swing Shift.” She shares an Oscar as a producer for the 1995 live-action short “Lieberman in Love.”
