A “Battlestar Galactica” executive producer and developer has closed a deal with Sony Pictures TV for the rights to a fantasy/adventure series that he will turn into a cable series, Deadline.com reports.

“Galactica’s” Ron Moore will write the adaptation of the "Outlander" book series, by novelist Diana Gabaldon, the story reports.

Jim Kohlberg’s Story Mining and Supply Co. will produce the show, which will be shopped to the cable nets this week.

"Outlander" is currently a set of seven (soon to be eight) bestsellers about a nurse named Claire during World War II who is transported back in time to the Scottish Highlands of 1743. There she finds the love of her life, Jamie, a Scottish warrior.

The books have a loyal, large following and are even credited with improving Scottish tourism. Before "Galactica," Moore worked on "Star Trek: The Next Generation" and "Deep Space Nine."
