Almost as suddenly as news broke of Katie Holmes’ divorce filing, word has surfaced today that Holmes and Tom Cruise have reached a settlement, TheWrap.com reports.
The couple did not reveal details of the settlement, but People magazine reports: “Sources close to both sides say that Cruise, 50, and Holmes, 33, were working on an arrangement in which Suri lives in New York with her mother and her father is given generous visitation rights.”
Holmes’ attorney Jonathan Wolfe said in a statement to People: "The case has been settled and the agreement has been signed. We are thrilled for Katie and her family and are excited to watch as she embarks on the next chapter of her life.”
Cruise’s attorney Dennis Wasser, also released a statement to People, saying: "All the lawyers and the parties are happy that it’s done, the deal was closed and we wish everyone well."
Holmes and Cruise released a joint statement to the website saying: “We are committed to working together as parents to accomplishing what is in our daughter Suri’s best interests. We want to keep matters affecting our family private and express our respect for each other’s commitment to each of our respective beliefs and support each other’s roles as parents.”
The story notes: “Reports last week indicated that Cruise intended to file his own divorce suit against Holmes, with Cruise’s lawyer, Bert Fields, saying that he intended to let Holmes ‘play the media’ before getting Cruise’s side of the story out.”
Cruise’s involvement with the Church of Scientology was believed to be an issue in the divorce, as previously reported. Holmes reportedly wanted to raise the couple’s 6-year-old daughter, Suri, outside the influence of the church.
They had been married since November 2006.
