Multiple Arrests in ‘Dark Knight Rises’ Incidents — Massive Arsenal Uncovered

Arrests have been made in at least three separate incidents related to screenings of “The Dark Knight Rises,” the Associated Press reports.

In an incident in Maine, authorities put a massive arsenal of assault weapons and handguns on display after arresting Timothy Courtois, who was stopped for speeding.

Courtois, of Biddleford, Maine, reportedly told police that he was on his way to shoot his former boss, one day after he watched “The Dark Knight Rises.”

The story reports: “A police search of his car found an AK-47 assault weapon, four handguns, ammunition and news clippings about the mass shooting that left 12 people dead early Friday, authorities said.”

A later search of his home reportedly turned up a machine gun, a number of other guns and thousands of rounds of ammunition.

Courtois told authorities he had seen the new Batman movie on Saturday, although it was uncofirmed whether he had actually attended the film.

Steve McCausland, a spokesman for the Department of Public Safety, said: "We don’t know what his true intentions were. Based on the arsenal that was confiscated, we brought in our counterparts from the FBI and ATF to assist with the investigation."

Courtois was reportedly charged with speeding and possession of a concealed weapon.

Other incidents took place in Southern California and in Arizona.

“Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies were called to a cinema complex in Norwalk after moviegoers said 52-year-old Clark Tabor shouted: ‘I should go off like in Colorado,’" the story reports. “They said he then asked: ‘Does anybody have a gun?’"

Tabor’s outburst may have been triggered when the movie didn’t start on time, the report notes.

“A security guard saw Tabor with a backpack on his knees in the second row, but deputies who searched the bag, the theater and its surrounding area did not find any weapon,” the story reports.

At a showing of the movie in Sierra Visa, Ariz., the crowd panicked in response to a confrontation with a man who appeared intoxicated. The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office said the confrontation caused "mass hysteria," prompting about 50 movie goers to flee the theater.

The story reports: “Off-duty Border Patrol agents tackled Michael William Borboa, 27, who had a backpack with him, according to The Arizona Daily Star. Authorities said it contained an empty alcohol container and a half-empty moonshine bottle.

“Borboa was arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct, and threatening and intimidating.”

Even with some potential film goers nervous about the Colorado shooting, “The Dark Knight Rises” had a big opening weekend. “Warner Bros. reported that it brought in $160.9 million over the weekend, making it the third highest opening weekend ever, after ‘The Avengers’ and ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2,’” the story reports.

  1. “…one day after he watched “The Dark Knight Rises.”
It was the same day, however, that he ate eggs for breakfast. Sensational reporting (not in a good way).

  2. I agree this is really making an effort to find a story. A guy shows up at a movie drunk and 50 movie goers flee the building. Did they run before or after the police officer tackled him? Do the police tackle every drunk they see in Sierra Visa? And in LA you don’t even have to be drunk? A guy makes a smart-ass remark when the movie doesn’t start on time. It may have been in bad taste, but it isn’t a crime.

  3. Just like shouting MOVIE in a crowded firehouse……
As usual, the news buzzards are circling and trying to make a story even bigger than it already was. Next: a guy opens fire on a city where DKR is playing so it’s *obviously* connected.
