Netflix Chief Executive Officer Reed Hastings announced a milestone in Netflix viewing, writing on his Facebook page that the company’s customers watched a record 1 billion hours of movies and TV shows online during June, Bloomberg reports.

In January, Netflix had said that online viewing during the final three months of 2011 equaled more than 2 billion hours. A spokesman for Netflix declined to provide the previous record.

New content will drive viewing even higher, Hastings wrote on his Facebook page. “When ‘House of Cards’ and ‘Arrested Development’ debut, we’ll blow these records away,” Hastings wrote.

  1. Since I cut the cable and hooked up a computer to the tv, every so often, I think about getting Netflix. Then, I get a pop up for Netflix, and it reminds me why I don’t have it. I refuse to do business with a company that irritates me.
