Pressure of Replacing Ann Curry on ‘Today’ Is Taking a Toll on Savannah Guthrie

A new report indicates Savannah Guthrie may not be holding up well under the pressure of her high-profile new job as co-host of NBC’s “Today” show.

Fox News reports that Guthrie is battling migraines as she tries to adapt to her new role on the morning show. “Guthrie, who earlier this month replaced Curry, has been suffering from headaches so severe, she needs to see a doctor several times a week and wear dark glasses to alleviate pressure on her eyes,” the piece reports.

A source commenting for the story said: “She goes to a doctor two days a week for treatment of the migraines, and is required to wear dark glasses when she’s not on set. The pressure of taking over after Ann’s execution is taking its toll.”

“Today’s” heated ratings war with rival ABC show “Good Morning America” appears to be adding to the pressure. “Today” is the perennial morning ratings leader, but has been losing ground. In Guthrie’s first week as co-host with Matt Lauer, “Today” lost to “GMA” by 300,000 viewers.

The report adds: “Sources tell us Guthrie’s issues have not been noticeable to others on set, and some told us they’d never seen Guthrie wearing dark glasses while at the 30 Rock studio.

“She hasn’t missed any work because of the headaches, nor is she expected to miss ‘Today’ coverage of the London Olympic games that kick off next week, sources told us.”

  1. It ought to be interesting to see the two (Curry & Guthrie) of them together tomorrow morning, reporting from Denver.

  2. This is unfair because Ms. Guthrie did not do the hatchet job. Matt Lauer did but will never take the fall because he after all is the “Today” show brand.
If anyone were to read some of the reviews after Katie Couric left, Ann Curry was perceived as not being “strong” enough, yet they gave her the job anyway….

  3. Isn’t it presumputious of the writer or the readers to assume that Savannah Guthrie’s headaches have anything to do with Ann Curry?
