TV Networks Announce Andy Griffith Marathons, Tributes

With news today of the death of TV icon Andy Griffith, as we reported earlier, television outlets are scrambling to put together special programming to pay tribute to Griffith and showcase his work.

TV Land, which regulary airs episodes of “The Andy Griffith Show,” announced marathon blocks of the show during the coming week, while TCM rolled out a block of Andy Griffith feature films scheduled for later this month.

Here’s a roundup of the special programming that has been announced so far.

TV Land

“The Andy Griffith Show” programming blocks:

Wednesday, July 4, 8 a.m.-1 p.m. ET/PT
Saturday, July 7, 11 a.m.-8 p.m. ET/PT
Sunday, July 8, 11 a.m.-8 p.m. ET/PT

TV Land says it wil air some of the most memorable episodes of the show. In addition, some of his best TV moments will be featured on the TV Land Facebook page (facebook.com/tvland).

Turner Classic Movies (TCM)

Mini-marathon of Andy Griffith movies, Wednesday, July 18:

8 p.m. ET: “A Face in the Crowd” (1957)
10:15 p.m. ET: “No Time for Sergeants” (1958)
12:30 a.m. ET: “Hearts of the West” (1975)
2:15 a.m. ET: “Onionhead” (1958)

Select episodes of TV shows featuring guest appearances by Andy Griffith, Wednesday, July 4, noon-3 p.m. ET:

noon — “Hawaii Five-0” episode: “I’m A Family Crook — Don’t Shoot”

  1. How about marathons for “Matlock” (1985-95) and “Salvage-1” (1979), both starring Andy Griffith.
    “Salvage-1” is a rarely seen sci-fi series (starring Andy Griffith)that aired in 1979 on ABC for about 20 episodes. A complete series DVD would also be nice to see.
