Wednesday Night Reality Bloodbath Finds Franchise Shows Struggling on Three Networks

High-profile reality shows on three broadcast networks found the ratings waters toxic on Wednesday night, based on Nielsen overnights.

The numbers brought bad news for CBS’s “Big Brother,” Fox’s “So You Think You Can Dance” and NBC’s “America’s Got Talent.”

TVbytheNumbers.com reports that “Big Brother” delivered a 1.9 average rating in the key demo of adults 18-49 for its Wednesday season premiere — down a hefty eight-tenths of a ratings point from the 2.7 for last year’s Wednesday premiere.

Fox’s two-hour “So You Think You Can Dance” settled for a 1.8 in viewers 18-49, down two-tenths from the 2.0 the show scored a week earlier — but still good enough to win the night for Fox.

NBC saw “America’s Got Talent” — the network’s only fresh program of the night — sink to a season-low 1.9 in 18-49, down a tenth from a week ago.

ABC’s only non-repeat program was “Final Witness” at 10 p.m., which managed only a 1.2 in the 18-49 demo — an improvement of one-tenth from last week.

Everything else on the big 4 networks was repeats.

For prime time overall, Fox took the win in the 18-49 demo with a 1.8 average, ahead of Univision (1.5 average), CBS (1.4), NBC (1.3) and ABC (1.2). Total viewers was won by CBS with 5.4 million, followed by NBC with 5.2 million, Fox with 5.1 million, ABC with 3.9 million and Univision with 3.8 million.

  1. America’s Got Talent (with the exception of one or two acts) was horrible this week!
